Q&A with attorney Dan Stuart

Dan Stuart – an experienced and compassionate attorney as well as a close personal friend of Curtis Moore – joined Moore Legacy Law in late 2021. Read more about Dan’s background and why we selected him here.

Dan plans to open the Liberty office of MLL soon. Like Jim (Lebanon) and Curtis (Parkville), Dan aims to remove the estate planning intimidation factor and make it easy for local community members to protect their loved ones.

Q. How did you get into this line of work? What keeps you in it?

A. This is going to sound like a joke answer, but, Curtis. The opportunity to work with a close friend doing something that will enrich the lives of those I’m working for is kind of a dream come true.

Q. What do you appreciate most about MLL?

A. I appreciate the approach to client service: be upfront about everything, overcommunicate, and set expectations. The goal is to develop lifelong relationships with clients.

Q. For clients, what do you think is the biggest benefit of working with MLL?

A. We demystify the estate planning process. MLL clients get a hands-on approach that walks them through the process step by step and helps them understand it in a way that makes sense. The goal is to make sure that they leave with a plan they actually understand and that will work for them.

Q. Why is your work at MLL important to you?

A. It’s important to me because it’s important to the people that we’re working for. We’re entrusted with our clients’ legacies, and it’s important to me that they feel like it means as much to me as it does to them.

Q. What will you always try to do for MLL clients? Avoid doing?

A. I will always communicate at every step with clients and avoid talking down to them or trying to sell them something they don’t really need.

Q. What have been some of your proudest professional achievements?

A. I’m big on relationships. My proudest professional achievements revolve around building relationships with clients and helping them win. One of my most satisfying cases was a pro-bono case – I got a client a settlement to take care of property that was destroyed. Helping someone in that way is really gratifying.

Q. What are you passionate about outside of work?

A. When I’m not wrangling five children, I like to sneak out early in the morning – I drive to places where there is less light pollution and take long exposure photos of the Milky Way. We’ll sometimes plan vacations around areas that have especially dark skies.

Q. What drew you to MLL last year?

A I was drawn to a new adventure, to apply my 10 years of experience to this new chapter, to work with a dear friend, and to help build something enduring. Most of all, I was and am excited to help people plan for their futures and make sure their loved ones are taken care of.
